Maybe Monday!?

So, I threw a little fit yesterday and it seemed to get things moving. It went something along the lines of me crying to the nurse that I didn't want Cohen to still be here for his 6 month birthday and that it was unrealistic for them to expect him to take all of his feeds before he went home because I don't have that much sanity left and didn't want to push him that hard. The wonderful nurse went and talked to the Drs who came and talked to me. We talked about transferring him up to St. Joseph's in Bellingham. However, we also discussed that most of the things that could be done for him in the nursery there we could do at home. SO, what does this mean!? It means that we need to get a few things done and then they will probably let him go home Monday!!!!! (Realistically, I'm giving it a few extra days just in case...I would be perfectly happy if he was home sometime next week). But first, we have to:

1)Pass a carseat test - Cohen has to sit in his carseat for 90 minutes and not have any ABCs (drop his heart rate or oxygen) He is doing this as I type....he is 40 minutes in, so far so good. DONE!

2) Have another cranial ultrasound to check on his brain bleed. He had a Grade I on one side after he was born. This is the lowest one, so that's good. It was resolving at the one they checked last month. Also good.

3) Have his labs checked tomorrow to make sure he is still doing okay on his oxygen settings.

4) Have an eye exam

5) Pass a hearing test

6) We have to find a pediatrician and schedule an appt for Tuesday if he gets discharged Monday

7) Get all of his discharge teaching...learn how to deal with his feeding tube and oxygen

8) Maybe have another echo?

9) Have a test done where they insert dye into his bladder and kidneys to make sure there is no damage from a UTI he had long, long ago

10) Get his 4 month immunizations

11) Run to the store for special bottles and preemie nipples and whatever else we need for him to come home

No problem right!? We'll see if it all happens by Monday! Say a little prayer for us, I imagine this will be a little bit of a whirlwind next few days. While we are THRILLED to be taking him home, we are also a little nervous. We are leaving behind our nurses and monitors and everything that we have known. This has been our home for the last 4 months. But I know it will be so great to get him home.

  4. This is so exciting!!! We'll be praying for you guys!! He's pretty darn adorable in his carseat :) There's one more thing you need to add to your list. You need to weigh him just before you leave to see who is closest in your contest!

Also, Kyle said he was so nervous the whole time he was doing pictures. He said if they don't turn out as good as they normally do, he could do them again when Cohen is all better :) He felt so bad for him!

  5. Ok, so the important question is WHAT DOES HE WEIGH? Am I going to win? Ha ha ha. That's funny about him passing a hearing test to come home. Think of all the children they would still have in the hospital because they are hard of hearing. I highly recommend almost ANY pediatrician at Peacehealth and another thing to consider is that they are the pediatricians on hospital duty in peds, so having them know your child inside and out is very comforting. We have Dr. Wisner and he isn't a hospital doc, but he's the BEST. Nancy Bischoff used to work at Children's I believe and specialised in infants. She says everyone there (at PH) is as good as she is, but she's got lots of know how.
