Teeny Tears

While looking for projects to do for our local NICU, I came across a pattern for tiny flannel diapers.  I emailed Megan, who started the Teeny Tears project, and told her I wanted to get involved.

Teeny Tears makes flannel bereavement diapers and donates them to local hospitals for families who have lost babies. The diapers come in two sizes and fit babies as small as 20 weeks up to 34 weeks. Each family is given a set of two diapers, one for the baby to wear and one for the family as a keepsake. It is very difficult to find things that fit a teeny, tiny baby and these diapers are perfect.

I know I would have loved to have had the opportunity to do something as "normal" as picking out and putting a diaper on Carter.

This project has been an awesome way for me to do something in memory of Carter and hopefully bring a small amount of comfort to some other families during an incredibly difficult time.

If you are interested in helping out in your local community, or just helping the project in general, please visit the Teeny Tears website, or contact me at jana.teenytears@gmail.com. This is a wonderful project for Sunday School classes, Bible studies, your sewing group, etc.

There are many ways to help and get involved, even if you don't sew!

  1. Donate financially. Go to www.teenytears.blogspot.com and click on the “donate” button. Quick and easy!
  2. Donate flannel or cut out diapers. You can go to the Teeny Tears website, download the patterns, cut out diapers and either get them to someone you know who can sew, or mail them in to Teeny Tears to be sewn. This is a HUGE help!!
  3. Sew diapers. Whether you want to work solo or gather up your friends, family, or church group and have a “diaper party”, there are huge needs to fill in the bereavement area. Hospitals are generally desperate to get these diapers and there is an ongoing list of places requesting them. If you have a specific hospital in mind that you would like to sew and donate diapers to, let Teeny Tears know and they can help you lay the groundwork for donations.
  4. Shop online. If you don't have the time or resources for diapers but you do shop online, this is perfect for you. Go to http://www.igive.com//EM3Xptb and download the iGive button. Whenever you shop online at a participating store, a certain percentage will be given to Teeny Tears. There is a $5 bonus just for signing up and another $5 bonus if you make a purchase within 45 days.

If you have questions or would like more info, feel free to email me at jana.teenytears@gmail.com or join the Teeny Tears Facebook Group. It is full of wonderful people all taking part in making diapers!
